I'd been having trouble launching AE and on my Mac Pro would also crash on launch , but what helped was creating a new user- that allowed me to work for a while until the problem caught up with my new account. But, every time I created a new user, AE would work fine for a while.
No idea what I was doing to corrupt it. PITA, especially needing to reactivate dozens of scripts and plugins, but it would get me through a week or two of work before having to go through it again. I'm getting crash on startup as well.

I had the same issue but I resolved it after increasing the disk cache size to 50 GB which was 24 GB by default and cleaning the media cache. The application will not open until you manually delete all your temp files and cache files. When after effects opens change maximum disk cache according to available space in your hard disk.
I am having the same problem, though AE started crashing for me before I upgraded to the version. In fact I uninstalled the version, and installed the new one, in hopes that it would solve the problem but it didn't. Adobe Support recommends that I either uninstall and reinstall all Adobe apps or that I create a new Admin account on my Mac and migrate everything there.
Both "solutions" are ludicrously cumbersome. Can anyone advise what the location of the equivalent directories is on a Mac? Almost guaranteed this is a 3rd party plugin compatibility problem. Remove all 3rd party plugins and then reintroduce them to find the culprit.
